Do you offer collaborative law?

Yes. All our attorneys are trained in collaborative law. We encourage the use of the collaborative process wherever possible. We believe it is a cost-effective, dignified alternative to going to court. It is especially valuable for parents who wish to maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship after the case is over.

How much will my case cost?

Everyone is concerned about the high cost of legal fees, and this is a universal question. Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict with any certainty the ultimate cost of a case without knowing the issues involved or the inclination of the client or the opposition toward settlement. While there are some parts of the case that are within our control, we cannot control the other side, the other lawyer, or the court's docket. Our professionals and para-professionals charge by the tenth of an hour (minimum .20), and their hourly rates range from $100 to $290 per hour. Most simple divorces take a minimum of 10-12 hours. If there are highly contested children's issues or complex property issues, many more hours of work may be involved. At our firm we try very hard to help you keep your costs down by showing you how you can save time and therefore legal fees. In addition to hourly billings, you may also incur costs for filing fees, process server and courier fees, and court reporter fees. We will talk honestly with you about what you can expect your case to cost, at the beginning when we first learn about the potential issues in your case, and at every step along the way so that you can have some control over the cost of your case.

How long will it take to get divorced?

There is a mandatory 60-day waiting period in Texas for every divorce. However, most cases take much longer than 60 days. It is possible to finalize very simple uncontested cases soon after the expiration of 60 days. Cases with very complex and disputed issues will often take more than a year. Most cases take several months. After we consult with you we will have a better idea about how to estimate the time your case will take.
